A few weeks ago, Instagram launched their first app of 2015, Layout and hot on the heels are some new in-app tools which will make creative players very happy.
In an interesting change, developers bought the updates to Android before iOS – but at any rate, all users now have access to photo editing tools called Color and Fade (excuse the American spelling).
Color lets you adjust the tone of images using a colour pallet from yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan or green creating highlights and shadows. It results in a very vintage look; conversely, while Fade lets you wash out colours totally evoking a low-fi feel.
Both features have been a part of the standard off-the-shelf filters for a while now, but this is the first time users have the ability to adjust these effects manually. It’s just another example of the shift towards the more detail-oriented adjustments Instagram began making available to users as knowledge and sophistication grows, whilst retaining all the features that give it mass-market appeal.
Instagram is also adding Post Notifications to its app, letting you receive instant announcements when your favourite accounts put up new pics or videos. This is a real boon for anyone who racks up a hefty follow list, to catch updates as they happen without having to scroll through hours of content.
